Rocky’s Horror (see Thursday, Oct. 29)

THURSDAY OCTOBER 29

Theater: Sweet Transvestite

It's the show that won't die about the undead that won't behave. The Rocky Horror Show has become a new Halloween tradition, doing the "Time Warp" and damning Janet afresh every autumn. A full stage version runs through Nov. 14 at Bridgeport's Playhouse on the Green (177 State St., Bridgeport; playhouseonthegreen.org; $26-$29). Closer to home, and seemingly more in-your-face, the Playwright Irish Pub & Restaurant (144 Temple St.) is into the second and final weekend of its own Rocky Horror Show Live Halloween Experience, an interactive performance where sales of audience "prop bags" (you know, rice and toast and such) will be donated to AIDS Project New Haven. You're encouraged to come in costume, especially tonight for the "Gender Bender show." Through Saturday at 8 p.m.; that final Oct. 31 show culminates in a KC101 Halloween Party. Advance tickets only, $15-$26; 203-376-9359, pacshows.com.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 30

Halloween: Don't Dream It, Be It

These are both sedentary events, but you'll only need the edge of your seat: Spooky scribe Diana Ross McCain shares her Mysteries & Legends of New England 7 p.m. at R.J. Julia Booksellers (768 Boston Post Rd., Madison; 800-74-READS, rjjulia.com; $5 admission), while the much-written-about paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren — who, with her husband Ed (he died in 2006) had a hand in confirming the spiritual spasms that became known as The Amityville Horror — makes her annual visit to Southern Ct. State University (Lyman Center, on the SCSU campus, 501 Crescent St.; 203-392-6154, tickets.southernct.edu; $10, $8 SCSU students & staff).

SATURDAY OCTOBER 31

Music: Wild and Untamed Thing

Sure, they're loud and fast and brutal, but we never thought of local classic hardcore icons Broken as particularly scary; they're more like crazed community agitators. Yet they're headlining Halloween night at Café Nine (250 State St.; 203-789-8281, cafenine.com), along with some other long-lived local punk survivors 76% Uncertain. So where's the terror? Black Noise Scam is conventionally dark and creepy. Plus, in case you missed what passes for The Misfits (only original member: the bassist) at Toad's a couple weeks back, crafty rockers Covin promise an all-Misfits set. 10 p.m. $5.

Film: Science Fiction Double Feature

In case you want to avoid the clubs but also don't want to sit home alone in the dark, you can sit with others in the dark at Criterion Cinemas (86 Temple St.; 203-498-2500, bowtiecinemas.com) where this morning's 11 a.m. "Movies and Mimosas" feature is Hitchcock's original Psycho while the 11:30 p.m. "Insomnia Theater" screening is Wes Craven's original Nightmare on Elm Street.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 1

Music: Superheroes

Anyone who sees The Wiggles live understands that this is a talented, hard-working rock band whose fan base just happens to be under 5 years old. The Australian band, plus their retinue of video regulars Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog and the Wiggles Dancers, maintain a fierce touring schedule that has them on the road ten months a year, often doing more than one show a day. They don't fill stadiums in Connecticut they way did a few years ago, but their new "The Wiggles Go Bananas!" tour is still massive enough to rate back-to-back shows (at 1:30 & 5 p.m.) today at the 3,000-seat Chevrolet Theatre (95 S. Turnpike Rd., Wallingford; 203-265-1501, livenation.com).

Music: Once in a While

At first listen, the recordings of young pianist Taylor Eigsti might seem pretty conventional — the smooth-jazz flourishes, the bleating sax and peripatetic percussion, all very adult-contemporary radio-friendly. But listen more deeply, and you'll hear structural and sonic surprises aplenty. Eigsti's messing with tradition, not a slave to it. And what better venue to give a fresh talent an open hearing than that consummate listening room Firehouse 12 (45 Crown St.; 203-785-0468, firehouse12.com)? Two sets from Taylor and his current trio — Aaron McLendon drums, Joshua Crumbly's on bass — at 8:30 p.m. ($15) and 10 p.m. ($10).

MONDAY NOVEMBER 2

Music: I'm Going Home

A few biggish cities converge tonight at a suburban all-ages club, The Space (295 Treadwell St., Bldg. H, Hamden; 203-288-6400, thespace.tk). The fast-rising Hollywood Lies hails from Boston, City Lights comes from Columbus, Ohio, Time and Distance calls Charleston, W. Va. home (check their MySpace for a wonderfully cheesy hometown TV interview) and Bamboo Shoots comes from Brooklyn. The compelling sound will be rock, with regional variations. 7 p.m. $10.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3

Music: The Time Warp

Thought there were no club-friendly holidays between Halloween and Thanksgiving? Think again: The Mighty Diamonds reggae harmony spectacular at Toad's Place (300 York St.; 203-624-TOAD, toadsplace.com) is subtitled "His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I Coronation Day." Like you needed a special reason to appreciate a legendary vocal group that's been a living chapter of Jamaican music history for 40 years now. 8 p.m. $20, $15 in advance.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4

Music: Over at the Frankenstein Place

BAR and Firehouse 12 don't get all the experimental man/machine-bonding band bookings, you know. Tonight, Firehouse bartender Carlos Wells' Safety Meeting record label takes to Café Nine (250 State St.; 203-789-8281, cafenine.com) to present the Brooklyn-based psychedelic acoustic/electronic artistes Grandchildren, peskily repetitive dance/R&B/pop/disco deviant Alex Grenier (direct from France!) and the bicoastal, self-proclaimed "indie/country/religious" ensemble The Fishermen Three. 9 p.m. Free.

Much as I would love to keep the Taylor Eigsti all to myself, it is in fact on Friday, Oct. 30, not Sunday, Nov. 1
