“Gay Play”
November 13-15 2008
Yale Cabaret (217 Park Street)
Showtimes 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
If nothing else, what I love more than anything is to be able to sip on a glass of white zinfandel eat some delicious goat cheese over a bed of yummy greens and await the most “genius” production I have seen in a while “ Gay Play”.
With the set of the stage decorated with disco “balls” lots of hot pink, the walls covered with pictorials of Madonna, Cher, Wonder Woman and the golden girls and don’t forget the Virgin Mary (god we all need her in our corner ), a dildo phone that was simply divine a coachbathed in zebra like stripes decorated lovely with dildo shaped pillows,I knew this was my kind of “play” and every gay boys fantasy!
As soon as I was seated at my table I knew I was totally at home and couldn’t wait for the production to begin!
“Gay Play” opened last night which runs at the Yale Cabaret (217 Park Street) tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Written by Gonzalo Rodriguez Risco DRA ’09 and directed by Michael Walkup DRA ’09,
“Gay Play” casts the funniest of a drag queen, Didi Coquette (played by John Doherty DRA ’10 . (whom I might add is straight and did an AMAZING job portraying a drag queen ).
Didi ‘s friend Joseph (played by Michael Walkup DRA ’09).
(was “shear” genius in his portrayal of Didi’s B.G.G.F. (Best Gay Girlfriend Forever).
Didi and Joseph spend a innocent weekend together of sipping “cock” tails lip syncing to the oldest of tunes and channeling Madonna’s “VOGUE” talking about boys and even getting the hottest of hot male military strippers to dance around with them who voices his own Opinions on “LOVE”.
Then the “BIGGEST” of surprises, Little does Miss Didi know her would-be Prince Charming ( Joseph) has eyes for a “different” Queen.
A glittering comedy that dares to ask: can the truth come in again once it's already come out?
