Greed and corruption have caused the music business to scramble for sales. Artists resort to George Lucas-style subterfuge to prevent their music from leaking digitally across the planet. Tower Records, a huge national chain, went bust. How does a mom and pop-style record store like Cutler's stay afloat? "Used vinyl is huge," says owner Phil Cutler. "And no matter what, there's still the demographic of people, maybe 24 and over, who want the physical CD in their hand. They want the lyrics. They want to see the artwork." And even though iTunes offers the now-extinct single for as little as 99 cents, "[Cutler's] will sell you the whole CD used for only $7.99 in some cases, so it's even cheaper," says Cutler.
