Merry Maids is the largest cleaning franchise around. Larry Twain has owned the New Haven-area franchise since 1993 and he just expanded into the New London area.
Merry Maids cleans about 250-300 homes a week and the reasons vary. Some people prefer one-time cleanings, says Twain, for a party or because they're moving. Others choose regular service, as often as once a week. "They can have as much time as they want -- some 10,000-square-foot homes take two to three days."
Employees are now taking part in "Cleaning 101," a national Merry Maids program. "Everybody's going to do the same thing, so it doesn't matter where you are or which team is cleaning your house," says Twain. "It's about consistency."
