"I've got 160 tequilas," says owner Bob Potter. "When we first opened, I had 20." c.o. jones' long tequila menu - any of which can be used in their margaritas - is the result of an aficionado's search to find the best tequilas and bring them to New Haven.
"I've been on tasting tours in Mexico," says Potter. "They can get ugly by the end," he adds with a smile.
So to take the guesswork out of which tequila to put in your margarita, know that Potter's tried each of them on the menu and can vouch for them all. The sour mix is made fresh daily, with fresh lemon and lime juice, and all the flavored margaritas use fresh fruit purees. And yes, the rumors are true: the margaritas at c.o. jones are strong.
And if you want to try the connoisseur's tequila, try the triple distilled Patron Gran Platinum. It's Potter's favorite.
