It happens to the best of us: You walk into Archie Moore's looking for a sandwich or cup of their delicious chowder when the smell of buffalo wings hits you: spicy, tangy and unmistakably Archie's. Before you know it, you're staring at a heaping pile of bones and an empty ramekin of bleu cheese and wondering: "Where all da white meat at?"
What began as a way to sell a part of the chicken no one wanted to eat has spawned a culinary craze (and several restaurant chains with "wings" in their name). In Connecticut at least, Archie's was the original, serving up buffalo wings since 1982. Their signature sauce is available for sale at all five Archie's locations (New Haven, Wallingford, Milford, Derby and Fairfield) and the recipe's been a family-kept secret for a quarter century. And just try getting your wings at home as crispy as Archie's. You'll never do it.
